Wyatt Rhoads was added to the Louisville track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach specializing in multi events on July 17, 2023.
Over the course of his time at Louisville, Rhoads has coached the Cardinals' multis group to three USTFCCCA All-American honors, four NCAA Championships qualifications, two individual ACC titles, seven All-ACC honors, one NCAA Regionals bid, three program records, and three freshman records.
2024-25
Indoor
In 2024-25, his second season at Louisville, Rhoads guided KJ Byrd to an historic indoor season that culminated in a seventh-place finish in the men's heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships on his way to First Team All-American honors. Under Rhoads' tutelage, Byrd also became the first freshman in ACC history to win the conference title in the heptathlon, as the rookie recorded a program-record total of 5,903 points at the ACC Indoor Championships. Additionally, Lucy Fellows earned seventh at the ACC Indoor Championships in the women's pentathlon, scoring points at the indoor conference championship meet for the second straight season.
Outdoor
Rhoads led the Louisville multis group to one of their best seasons in program history, qualifying a trio of athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships and also breaking two school records and two freshman records. KJ Byrd ended his incredible freshman year with a fourth-place finish at the national championship meet in the men's decathlon to earn First Team All-American honors, while Paul Kallenberg placed 10th in the event to finish the year as a Second Team All-American. Additionally, Lucy Fellows punched her first career ticket to an NCAA championship meet, finishing 17th in the women's heptathlon to be tabbed as an Honorable Mention All-American. The multis also dominated at the ACC Outdoor Championships, as Kallenberg and Byrd took the top two spots in the decathlon with Kallenberg setting a new program record and Byrd setting a new freshman record in the process. Fellows also earned the bronze at the conference championship meet after breaking the school record in the heptathlon earlier in the season at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational.
2023-24
Indoor
During the 2023-24 indoor season, Rhoads guided a pair of athletes to All-ACC distinction in the multi events for their performances at the ACC Indoor Championships. Paul Kallenberg finished third in the men's heptathlon to earn First Team All-ACC honors and Lucy Fellows claimed a spot on the All-ACC Second Team in the women's pentathlon with a sixth-place finish in her first championship meet.
Outdoor
Rhoads guided Lucy Fellows to a successful freshman season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a total of 5,307 points to earn Second Team All-ACC distinction. Fellows also qualified for the NCAA East Regionals in the women's long jump after posting a season-best mark of 6.14m (20-1.75) that narrowly missed setting a new Louisville freshman record.
2022-23 - University of New Mexico - Assistant Coach
Prior to his time at Louisville, Rhoads coached pole vault and multi events at the University of New Mexico, while also assisting in the team’s recruiting efforts. During his time with the Lobos, Rhoads led Camillo Dunniger to the 2022 Mountain West indoor title in the heptathlon and also helped him qualify for the 2022 NCAA West Region Preliminaries in the javelin throw during the outdoor season.
2021-22 - Texas Tech University - Volunteer Assistant
Before joining the staff at UNM, Rhoads spent the fall of 2021 as a volunteer assistant at Texas Tech University where he assisted in coaching multi events, pole vault, and jumps while also aiding in recruiting in all events for the Red Raiders.
Personal
Rhoads spent six years competing in track and field collegiately in the heptathlon and decathlon, spending his first three years of college at Iowa State University, where he was also a member of the football team, and his final three years at the University of Colorado. He scored points at the conference championship meet five times, including a fifth-place finish in the decathlon at the 2021 Pac-12 Outdoor Championships.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in public relations with a minor in psychology from Iowa State in 2018, Rhoads completed a master of science in organizational leadership at Colorado while exhausting his remaining eligibility on the track.
