Junior: Coming back from an injury, Rachel played a vital role for the Cardinals, contributing to multiple relay wins throughout the season. At the UofL Invitational, she finished third in the 200 free (1:48.94), fifth in the 100 free (50.03), and seventh in the 50 free (23.20). She also was a member of the winning 200 free relay team. Against Kentucky, she recorded a fourth place finish in the 100 free (51.42) and was a member of the winning 400 free relay squad. At the Ohio State Winter Invitational she earned a third place finish in the 100 free (50.07) and a seventh place finish in the 50 free (23.68). At the Arena Pro Swim Series in Atlanta, she swam the 50-meter free (27.37), 100-meter free (58.57), and 200-meter free (2:06.74).
Sophomore: Rachel missed most of last season with an injury. In June, at the Arena Pro Series, she competed in the 200-free, the 50-free, the 400-free and the 100-free.
Freshman: Rachel Grooms made an immediate impact on the sprint corps for the Cardinals as a freshman. She earned honorable All-American honors in one event. She was particularly successful in the relays for the Cardinals. She swam the second leg of 800 Free Relay with a split of 1:47.10 and third place at the ACC Championships. Also at ACCs, she swam the third leg of 200 free relay with a split of 22.68 for 5th place. At the NCAA Championships, she swam the third leg in 49.49 of the 400-free relay team that finished 11th and competed in the 800-free relay. She also competed at the Arena Pro Series in Charlotte. In the dual season, she had a fifth place at Indiana in the 50-free, going 24.09 and was second against Cincinnati with a 51.45 in the 100-free. She was fourth at Kentucky in the 200-free with a 1:51.48 and second in the 100-free with a time of 51.26. In the meet versus Auburn and Tennessee, she was second in the 200-free with a 1:49.69.
Prep: Rachel hails from Katy, Texas where she attended Seven Lakes High School and swam for Cypress Fairbanks Aquatics Club. At Seven Lakes, Rachel was an All-State selection all four years as well as an 11-time All-American. She also holds a record at Seven Lakes and was also a Junior Nationals and Nationals qualifier.
