Graduate Season at Louisville in 2021-22

Co-captain graduate transfer was fifth in the ACC in assists-turnovers ratio (2.38), 17th in steals (1.4) and 21st in assists (2.9).
Scored a season-high 20 points with four steals and three assists vs. Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament first round on March 8, making 4-of-6 three-pointers. His 20 points matched his scoring total from his previous four games combined and his four three-pointers in the game equalled a season high for him.
Produced 1,400 career points and 517 career assists over the last four years at Marshall (2017-21) and Louisville in 2021-22.
Scored 14 points twice in late January. He had made 12 three-pointers on the season in his first 18 games before making 22-of-48 threes over the last 15 contests (.458). West made 254-of-685 threes over his collegiate career (.371).
Finished with 517 career assists (424 at Marshall, 93 at Louisville). He led the team in assists in 15 games.
Third in the nation in career steals among active players in 2021-22 with 298, including 44 in his 32 games at Louisville. He had six games this season with three or more steals.
His five steals against Western Kentucky were the most by a Louisville player since Donovan Mitchell had five vs. Notre Dame on Jan. 4, 2017.

Collegiate Career at Marshall:

Graduate transfer from Marshall University, having departed as the career steals leader with over 1,200 career points in his four seasons there.
Named as a co-captain for the Cardinals this season with Malik Williams in a vote of their teammates.
Averaged a Conference USA-leading 6.0 assists (12th in the nation) and 2.5 steals (11th in the nation) as a senior for Marshall in 2020-21, adding 12.5 points (17th in C-USA) and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Connected on 40.8 percent of his three-point goals (42-of-103) in 21 games as the Thundering Herd posted a 15-7 record and finished third in the 2021 Conference USA East standings with a 9-5 record.
Selected to the 2021 All-Conference USA second team and C-USA All-Defensive Team, his 2.86 assists/turnover ratio also led C-USA. He had three or more steals in nine games last season.
In his four years at Marshall, West amassed 1,204 points (35th all-time at MU), 424 assists, 393 rebounds and a school-record 254 steals in his 126 career games (tied for fifth at Marshall), starting all but three of those games. The career steals mark is the second-most in Conference USA history, just 10 short of the league record, and ranks fourth in the nation among active players.
A career 37.6 percent shooter from three-point range, making 215-of-572 threes, the fifth-most threes made at Marshall.
Had 57 career double-figure scoring games at Marshall and handed out five or more assists on 39 occasions.
As a junior in 2019-20, West was the only player in Conference USA to rank in the conference top 10 in scoring, assists and steals. He averaged 14.2 points (10th in C-USA), 4.1 assists (4th), 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals (1st) when he was honored on the All-Conference USA Third-Team, C-USA All-Defensive Team, and C-USA All-Academic Team.
Recognized with the 2020 Conference USA Winter Sports Spirit of Service Award for Marshall, presented to student-athletes within C-USA who exemplify excellence within their sport, in the classroom and within community service endeavors.
Collected a school-record 80 steals as a sophomore in 2018-19. He produced career highs of 29 points against Middle Tennessee on Feb. 13, 11 assists at Western Kentucky on Jan. 25, 2020, and seven steals against Robert Morris on Dec. 20 (tied for the fourth-most steals in Marshall history).
Since the 1992-93 season, West is one of only 22 players who have career totals of at least 1,200 points, 400 assists, 250 steals and 200 three-pointers.
His father Jarrod -- who played college basketball at West Virginia from 1994-98 – has been the head coach at Notre Dame High School for the last 14 years.
Chose to attend Louisville for his final collegiate season after narrowing his choices to also include Ohio State and Pittsburgh.

High School:

Prior to his accomplished career at Marshall, West was honored with the 2017 Bill Evans Award, presented annually by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association to the state’s top boys prep basketball player. He was the first Class A player to earn the award in 33 years.
A first team all-state selection for his final three prep seasons, West averaged 20.5 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals as a senior in leading Notre Dame High School to a 23-5 record and the school’s first Class A state championship in 2017.
Also played one year of football in high school.

Personal:

Personal goal at UofL is to win the ACC regulart season title, the national championship and earn ACC All-Defensive Team honors.
Best moment of his athletic career to date was “playing in the NCAA Tournament and getting an upset win” over Wichita State in the 2018 first round.
Chose to attend UofL because “I built a good relationship with the coaching staff and I want to win a national championship.”
Enjoys watching Netflix, listening to podcasts and occasionally reading in his spare time.
His parents have had the greatest influence on his athletic career.
Chose to wear No. 13 because “it was the best available number during my freshman year and it stuck.”
Most proud of winning the West Virginia state championship in high school and being named the state player of the year.
Best basketball advice given to him is to always enjoy the journey.
When he played basketball as a kid, he pretended he was Derrick Rose.
If you walked into his dorm room, the first thing you would notice is “theres not a lot going on, ha ha.”
Best thing about being a Cardinal is the “support we get from the city and fan base is great!”
Feels Ice Cube would be the best actor to play him in a movie.
Few people know that he loves sweets.
The best athlete he ever faced is Zion Williamson.
Would most like to meet Damian Lillard.
What impresses him the most about Coach Mack is “his honest, openness and transparency, along with his competitive nature.”
