LOUISVILLE ATHLETICS INTERNSHIP - STUDENT-ATHLETE LEADERSHIP & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
This support area within Academic Services partners with all sports to support student-athletes in their personal leadership style discoveries and career development. Student-Athlete Leadership & Career Development programming efforts prepare student-athletes for interviews, graduate school application timelines, and career research through one-on-one meetings, team workshops, department wide programs, and more for the purpose of preparing student-athletes for life after sports.
Learning objectives for the Student-Athlete Leadership & Career Development Intern include, but are not limited to:
- Develop skills in creating successful programming for student-athletes that demonstrates a progression from year to year with a particular emphasis on leadership development, professional development, community outreach, and character development
- Develop skill in facilitating one-on-one meetings with student-athletes to create and review resumes, enhance LinkedIn accounts, discuss post-graduation plans, prepare graduate school applications, etc.
- Learn and understand specific needs for each team by interacting with student-athletes and coaches
- Develop skills in communication using social media to share programming information and creating marketing materials for various career workshops and other initiatives within the department
- Gain ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programming efforts by generating detailed records of program participation and initiating follow-up communication with participants
- Gain familiarity with student-athlete groups (e.g., SAAC, LIFE, SCORE, etc.)
- Develop ability to effectively communicate the principles of student-athlete development program to a wide audience (e.g., prospects, coaches, staff, campus partners, etc.).
- Observe academic advising appointments to understand monitoring, tracking, and support system
