Kipruto Earns Second Consecutive ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week Honor
April 28, 2026 | Track & Field
Kipruto has now been named ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week seven times this season across the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville men's track & field freshman Elsingi Kipruto has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the ACC on Tuesday.
Kipruto set a new meet and facility record in the men's 5000m over the weekend at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational, crossing the line in 13:32.00 in his first outdoor race at the distance in his collegiate career.
The time moves him up to second in program history while also currently ranking fifth in the ACC and 27th in the NCAA thus far this season. He also currently leads the NCAA in the men's 10000m with an ACC-record time of 27:29.83 that he recorded at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Apr. 16.
The honor marks the second consecutive week that Kipruto has earned the conference's title of the week's top rookie and the seventh time overall across the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons.
The Cardinals will close out their regular season this weekend when the teams split between the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif. on May 1 and the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Ky. on May 1-2.
