Track & Field Ready for Five-Meet Split

The Cardinals will be represented at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Invitational, Beach Invitational, and Virginia Challenge.
The University of Louisville track & field teams will split between five different meets this weekend in their return to competition after a week where the vast majority of the team was idle.

A pair of multi athletes will compete at the 66th annual Mt. SAC Relays over two days on Apr. 15-16 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

KJ Byrd will make his first appearance in the decathlon since placing fourth at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships last June. The sophomore most recently finished as the national runner-up in the men's heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, notably breaking the American and NCAA record for heptathlon pole vault in the process with a clearance of 5.57m (18-3.25).

The decathlon will begin tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET with the 100m, while the long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m will also be contested on Wednesday.

Lucy Fellows will also compete at Mt. SAC in the women's heptathlon, just two weeks after making her outdoor season debut at the Texas Relays.

The heptathlon will also begin tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET with the women's 100m hurdles. Fellows will also compete in the high jump, shot put, and 200m on Wednesday.

The Louisville distance squad will travel to Azusa, Calif. for the Bryan Clay Invitational, one of the premier distance meets in the country. The meet will take place over three days from Apr. 16-18 at the Cougar Athletic Stadium on the campus of Azusa Pacific University. All three days of competition will be streamed live on FloTrack.

Geoffrey Kirwa will make his season debut in the men's 3000m steeplechase, as the sophomore looks to defend his title from the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational that saw him move up to second in collegiate history with a time of 8:13.89. Earlier this month at the Stanford Invitational, Kirwa clocked a 5000m time of 13:21.49, the second-fastest time in the NCAA thus far this season.

Freshman Elsingi Kipruto will also make his outdoor collegiate debut in Azusa after being named ACC Men's Freshman of the Year during both the indoor track & field and cross country seasons, notably earning fourth place in the men's 5000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

The Louisville sprinters, throwers, and pole vaulters will compete at a pair of meets at Jack Rose Track on the campus of Long Beach State University in Long Beach, Calif., with the Pacific Coast Invitational set to be contested on Apr. 16 and the Beach Invitational scheduled for Apr. 17-18.

Ashley Callahan will return to competition in the women's pole vault for the first time since clearing an NCAA-leading bar of 4.60m (15-1) at the Bobcat Invitational on Apr. 3. Iliana Triantafyllou will also make her outdoor season debut in the event after an indoor season that saw her earn the first NCAA Championships qualification of her career.

Additionally, Kaia Tupu-South will step into the throws ring in Long Beach, entering the meet with ACC-leading marks in both the women's shot put and discus throw. The redshirt senior most recently posted a personal-best discus mark of 57.13m (187-5) at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational on Apr. 11.

The Louisville jumpers will close out the weekend at the Virginia Challenge on Apr. 17-18, which will take place at Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

The quartet of Eve Divinity, Sophia Day, Alba Cuns Iglesias, and Anna Panenko comes into the meet currently ranked as the top women's long jump group in the latest USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings with an average of 6.41m (21-0.5).

Roman Kuleshov and Miller Jones are also set to make their season debuts in the men's triple jump after the pair earned the top two spots in the event at the ACC Indoor Championships in February.
