Ryan Conwell was named to the All-ACC Second Team while Mikel Brown Jr. was picked to the Third Team and All-Rookie Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville senior guard Ryan Conwell and freshman guard Mikel Brown Jr. were tabbed to the All-ACC teams, the league announced Monday evening.
Conwell earned Second Team All-ACC honors while Brown was named to the Third Team All-ACC and the All-Rookie Team. Conwell becomes the fourth Cardinal ever named to the ACC Second Team while Brown's spot on the Third Team is the third for a Louisville player. He is one of two Cardinals ever named to the ACC All-Rookie Team.
Conwell is averaging 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game across 30 contests this season. He is shooting 40.8% from the floor with a 35.4% clip from the arc. His 18.7 points per game is the seventh most in the league and he leads the conference in 3-pointers made per game at 3.4 makes.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native has logged a team-high 13 20-point games for the Cardinals, including two 30+ point performances. He scored 31 points against NC State on Feb. 9 and 32 against NJIT on Thanksgiving Eve. Only one time this season has Conwell not scored double digits in a game.
The senior has been a mainstay for UofL, averaging 30.3 minutes per contest while appearing and starting in every game but one this season.
Brown was named the National AP Player of the Week, Naismith Trophy Player of the Week and ACC Player and Rookie of the Week in mid-February for his stellar performances against NC State and Baylor. Against the Wolfpack, the freshman tied the Louisville single-game scoring record at 45 points and broke the ACC Freshman single-game scoring record.
The Orlando, Fla., native is the only freshman in at least the last 30 years to have 45 points, nine boards and three steals in the same game. He is the only player in DI since at least 2010-11 to record at least 45 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals in 34 minutes or less.
The freshman has recorded nine 20-point games for the Cards, the most by any Louisville freshman in a single season in program history. He has led Louisville in scoring on nine occasions and led the Cardinals in assists in 16 of his 21 appearances.
Brown is averaging 18.2 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game through 21 contests.
On Feb. 9, Conwell scored 31 while Brown went for his record-breaking 45. The duo is the only DI teammate duo in the last 30 seasons to combine for 75+ points, 15+ rebounds and 15+ threes made in a game, according to OptaSTATS. Only one NBA duo has ever done it: Damian Lillard and Nassir Little during Lillard's 71-point game on Feb. 26, 2023. UofL is one of three teams in DI this season to have a game with two 31+ point scorers.
It was the first time that an ACC team had two players score 30+ points in a single game since Dec. 28, 2016 when Pittsburgh's Jamel Artis and Mike Young did so against Marshall. The duo became the first pair of ACC players to do it against another ACC team since Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson of UNC did it at Florida State on Jan. 4, 2016. It was also the first time one of the two players in the ACC duo had 40+ since Feb. 8, 1998, when Antawn Jamison and Shammond Williams of UNC did it at Georgia Tech in a double overtime game.
