Despines Named D1Softball Player of the Week

The senior had a stellar week, batting .533 with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Despines went 8-15 at the plate in week seven, good for a .533 batting average, and recorded four extra base hits including two home runs. She notched eight RBIs on the week, earned four walks, and stole two bases. Both home runs came against Western Kentucky, the first multi-home run game of her career, and she recorded three multi-hit games on the week.
The senior is having a standout season, as she was recently named the No. 8 catcher in the country according to Softball America's monthly position rankings for March.Â
She is batting second on the team with a .420 clip with 37 hits, including nine doubles, a triple, and four home runs, while coming second on the team with 33 RBIs. She has reached base in 31 of 32 games this season, with a 24-game reached base streak leading up to March 13. Her on-base percentage of .571 is third-best in the ACC and 25th nationally.
Despines has added an RBI in 19 games this season with her best performance coming against WKU where she went 3-for-4 and had a career high of five RBIs. In addition to her production at the plate, she is 14-for-15 on stolen base attempts, tying a career-high of two stolen bases against Boston.
