The weekend was highlighted by Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 4 wins

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – University of Louisville rowing wrapped up the 14^th annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Sunday at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

"It is our 14th year hosting this regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and like most other years, the athletes spent the full week on site," said head coach Derek Copeland. "We really needed those sessions on the water during spring training camp. We probably pushed a little too hard in the lead up to the regatta, though, and we saw some of that show up during races. We got a couple of wins, including a 3V4 win on Sunday. It has been awhile since we've had the depth to race that event, and the future is bright for those athletes."

In the first wave of races, Louisville competed against No. 24 Oklahoma and Navy before turning to Notre Dame and Wisconsin in the Saturday afternoon heats.

Action concluded on Sunday as Louisville faced off against No. 14 Indiana, Alabama and Navy again.

The weekend was highlighted by a Varsity 8 victory on Saturday afternoon, turning in a time of 6:42.796. The boat was led by coxswain Olivia Guarnaccia, Grace Rodebaugh, Macy Whisenand, Claire Carver-Ritter, Lexi Bernard, Anna Brennan, Bradlie Hicks, Clara Jane Van Dyk and Haley Kunz. The Cards defeated Notre Dame's Varsity 8 by two seconds and Wisconsin's by 12.

Louisville picked up another victory with the Third Varsity 4 boat on Sunday. The Cards finished in a time of 7:52.833, defeating Alabama's Third Varsity 4 and Notre Dame's Fourth Varsity 4. Coxswain Kaylee Gallagher led the crew of Claire Allie, Amelia Robinson, Rhiannon Hockey and Maya Lawrie.

"This early season event allows for lineups to change throughout the weekend," continued Copeland. "This year, we were able to have nearly the entire roster race through the three sessions. We're grateful for all of the teams that traveled for the regatta, and to the Oak Ridge Rowing Association for making this event a great start to our spring season."

Louisville takes 11 days off before returning to the Sarasota 2k on Friday March 27 and Saturday March 28.
