Louisville is looking for its best start in ACC play in school history
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 7 Louisville women's basketball team (20-3, 10-0 ACC) is closing out the west coast trip this weekend and a Sunday matinee is on deck. The Cardinals are across the bay to take on the Cal Golden Bears (13-9, 4-5 ACC) on Sunday, February 1. The Cards and Golden Bears will square off at 2 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast on the CW.
Louisville has a 13-game winning streak heading into Sunday's game and has started ACC play a perfect 10-0. They have started 10-0 in ACC play twice before in 2019-20 and 2015-16 but have never started 11-0 since they joined the league in 2014-15.
The Cardinals won their first game of the west coast swing on Thursday in the 84-66 win over Stanford. With the win, Louisville tallied its 20th win of the season and 10th ACC win. They have won 20 or more games in 16th-straight seasons, the third-longest active streak in the country. Louisville also extended its streak of 10 or more ACC wins to 12, every year they have been in the conference. No other ACC team has won 10 or more games in each of the last 12 seasons.
Louisville is taking a 12-game winning streak into Thursday's matchup and are off to a 9-0 start in ACC play. It is Louisville's longest winning streak since the 2021-22 season and its best start to ACC play since the 2020-21 season. The Cardinals have started 10-0 in ACC play just twice since they joined the league, most recently in the 2019-20 season.
In the win over the Cardinal on Thursday, Louisville was led by Laura Ziegler and Mackenly Randolph. Randolph had the hot start for the Cards, scoring nine points and was 3-for-3 from behind the arc in the first quarter. Ziegler tore it up in the third quarter for the Cards, scoring 10-straight points to help increase the Louisville lead. Ziegler finished with a season-high 22 points to go with 11 rebounds for her team-best fourth double-double of the season. Randolph also had a season high with 14 points on the night.

Center. The Cards forced 23 Golden Bear turnovers to just 22 field goals allowed in the game, holding Cal, who came in with the second most made three pointers in the ACC on the season, to 6-28 from beyond the arc. The win marks Louisville's second win over a ranked opponent on the season. In a game in which she reached 1,500 career points, Olivia Cochran led the way for the Cards offensively, coming up just shy of a double-double with 18 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Imari Berry contributed 14 points on 4-5 shooting off the bench, and Ja'Leah Williams also reached double figures with 11 points of her own. Jayda Curry continued her impressive defensive play with four more steals, giving her nine in the last two games.
