No. 7 Cardinals Head West to Face Stanford

Cards are off to their best start to begin ACC play since 2020-21
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 7 Louisville women's basketball team (19-3, 9-0 ACC) is heading west this week as they are set to take on the two California schools that joined the conference last season. First up for the Cardinals is Stanford (15-6, 4-4 ACC) as the two teams will square off on Thursday, January 29. The Cardinal and Cardinals will face off at Maples Pavilion at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Louisville is taking a 12-game winning streak into Thursday's matchup and are off to a 9-0 start in ACC play. It is Louisville's longest winning streak since the 2021-22 season and its best start to ACC play since the 2020-21 season. The Cardinals have started 10-0 in ACC play just twice since they joined the league, most recently in the 2019-20 season.
With their next win, Louisville will reach 20 wins for the season and 10 wins for conference play. The Cardinals have won 20 or more games in 15-straight seasons heading into this year, the fourth-longest active streak in the country. Louisville has won 10 or more conference games in each of their 11 seasons in the ACC heading into this season. No other team in the league has won 10 or more ACC games in each of the last 11 seasons.
During this current win streak for the Cardinals, they have gotten contributions from several players. Dating back to January 1, Louisville has had seven different players lead them in scoring over the last seven games. In the win over Boston College this past Saturday, Mackenly Randolph tied a career high with a team-best 13 points. Louisville had three players in double figures against Boston College with Tajianna Roberts and Skylar Jones both scoring 11 points. Three other players ended up with nine points in Laura Ziegler, Elif Istanbulluoglu and Imari Berry.

Stanford enters Thursday's matchup with a 15-6 overall record and are 4-4 in ACC play. Stanford has ACC wins over Cal (78-69), No. 16 North Carolina (77-71, OT), Wake Forest (55-43) and Boston College (77-52). They have fallen in conference play to NC State (46-74), Duke (60-67), Syracuse (58-69) and Cal (71-78, OT). Stanford was selected sixth overall in the ACC preseason coaches poll while Nunu Agara earned preseason All-ACC honors and Lara Somfai was on the preseason All-Freshman team. Stanford also has another common opponent this season of the Cardinals, as they fell in the ACC/SEC Challenge to No. 19 Tennessee (62-65). Stanford is one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country as they lead the ACC and rank seventh nationally with a 79.3 free throw percentage on the season.
Series History - This will be just the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools with Louisville leading the series 2-1. This is just the second time the two teams have met on each other's campuses as the first two meetings happened in the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals fell to Stanford in the bubble in San Antonio in the 2021 Elite Eight. In the first meeting between the two schools, Louisville came away with a dominant 86-59 win over Stanford in the 2018 Sweet 16 in Lexington en route to the program's third Final Four. Last season as conference foes, the Cardinals defeated the Cardinal 74-65 at the KFC Yum! Center.
Last Meeting (Feb. 9, 2025) - The Louisville women's basketball team (17-7, 10-3 ACC) used a strong third quarter to hold on for a 74-65 win over Stanford (11-12, 3-9 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center. Tajianna Roberts once again led the way for the Cards offensively, racking up 21 points on 8-for-17 (47.1%) shooting with four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. She went 4-for-7 (57.1%) from three and her 14-point third quarter helped her to her fourth 20-point performance of the season. Jayda Curry finished with 19 points on 4-for-9 (44.4%) shooting with three assists and two steals of her own, scoring 15 in the final quarter to boost Louisville to victory. Ja'Leah Williams joined Roberts and Curry in double figures with 13 points, going 5-for-12 (41.7%) from the field.
