January 14, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. –University of Louisville lacrosse coach Scott Teeter has announced that Dennis Truman has been named an assistant coach and director of operations.
Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Dennis to our staff on a full-time basis," said Teeter. "He brings tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and a strong coaching background that will make an immediate impact on our program. After working with us last season as a program volunteer, Dennis already knows our culture, and we're excited to continue building toward our goals with him."
Â
A retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class, accomplished entrepreneur, and lifelong teacher of leadership, Truman joined the Cardinals program in 2025 after first working around the team in 2024 as an ACC/ESPN color commentator.
Â
"I'm grateful to officially join the University of Louisville women's lacrosse staff as an assistant coach and director of operations," said Truman. "I am thankful to Coach Scott Teeter for the trust and opportunity to work with these student-athletes. Helping them grow as people as well as players is what truly fills my cup."
Truman officially joined the Louisville staff in the 2024-25 season as a program volunteer, providing on-field assistance during practices and games while leading the team's leadership and character development initiatives. His coaching philosophy, rooted in accountability, preparation, and mental toughness, reflects the same core principles that defined his decorated 20-year military career.
Before joining the Cardinals, Truman served as a head coach for Sacred Heart Academy from 2017-25, establishing the program as one of the premier high school teams in Kentucky while becoming the winningest coach in the program's history. Under his leadership, Sacred Heart captured multiple state championships, advanced to the title game nearly every season, and won the regional championship each year he coached.
Â
His commitment to player growth and culture produced remarkable individual success as well, including 15 First-Team All-State selections, 18 Second-Team All-State honorees, seven USA Lacrosse All-Americans, and players recognized as the state's Midfielder of the Year, Attack Player of the Year, and Goalie of the Year. Truman also coached three Miss Kentucky Lacrosse award winners, the highest individual honor in the state and helped numerous athletes continue their playing careers at the collegiate level.
In addition to his high school success, Truman spent a decade (2015-24) with the Bluegrass Premier Lacrosse program, serving as both a head coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure, he helped develop and guide 87 players who went on to compete at the collegiate level. His ability to identify talent, build relationships with college coaches, and mentor athletes through the recruiting process made him a respected figure throughout the region's lacrosse community.
Truman began his collegiate coaching career at Clarkson University, where he was an assistant coach for the Golden Knights women's lacrosse program while serving as an Associate Professor of Military Science from 2012-15. In his first two seasons, he helped Clarkson set back-to-back program records for single-season victories, first with 11 wins, then surpassing that mark with 12 the following year. His impact on player development, culture, and team performance contributed to a lasting foundation of success within the program.
Outside of lacrosse, Truman serves as Chief Operating Officer of Waste Now and is the owner of Okolona Fence Company.Â
Truman earned his bachelor's degree in history from Columbia College in 2015.
Â
He and his wife, Colleen, have a daughter, Kaelin, who plays collegiate lacrosse at Transylvania University.
