Women’s Golf Begins Season at Sam Golden Invitational

This will be the first of five fall tournaments for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's golf team is set to begin the 2025-26 season as it heads to the Lone Star State for the first tournament of the fall. The Cardinals will participate in the Sam Golden Invitational, hosted by North Texas at Oakmont Country Club. The two-day tournament features 13 teams and will begin on Monday, September 8.
Four of the five players in the Cardinals lineup are returners from last season in sophomores Bailey Burkett and Veronika Exposito, junior Millie Cottrell and senior Thienna Huynh. Freshman Madison Moman rounds out the lineup as she makes her first collegiate appearance.
The Cardinals are coming off a season where they returned to the NCAA Tournament as a team for the first time since 2022. Louisville finished seventh in the NCAA Lexington Regional and three of the Cardinals (Burkett, Huynh, Exposito) playing in this tournament competed in the Lexington Regional to conclude last season.
Burkett competed in nine tournaments and recorded a 75.74 scoring average in her first collegiate season. She tallied one Top 10 finish and three Top 20 finishes. Burkett had five rounds at par or better and one round in the 60's. Her best finish came at The Robbie where she finished tied for ninth overall. She tied for the lowest individual round by a Louisville player last season when she shot a 68 in the final round of the Lexington Regional.
Huynh competed in all 10 tournaments last season in her first year with the Cardinals after transferring from UNLV. She was third on the squad with a 74.13 scoring average and second with seven rounds at par or better. Her two Top 10 finishes were tied for the most on the team and she had five Top 20 finishes. She earned an individual win when she finished tied for first at The Robbie after a 1-over-par 217 for the tournament.
Exposito also competed in nine tournaments in her first collegiate season with the Cardinals. She finished the season second on the team with a 74.11 scoring average and had seven rounds at par or better. She had one Top 10 finish and two Top 20 finishes on the season. She finished tied for seventh overall at The Robbie and she had a team-best finish at the ACC Championships when she was tied for 25th overall.
Cottrell competed in seven tournaments last season and had a 76.10 scoring average in her sophomore season. She had two rounds at par or better, one Top 10 finish and two Top 20 finishes. She tallied a season best third overall at The Robbie.
Moman will make her first collegiate appearance this week at the Sam Golden Invitational. In her prep career, she qualified for five USGA events and won six FSGA events. Two of her wins came within a week and she won each of them wire-to-wire. She has tallied four runner-up finishes and five Top-5 finishes, including the 2024 FSGA 30th Women's Amateur.
