Step Up in Competition as Cards Open ACC Play
September 22, 2025 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team will hit the road for the first time this season, when they open ACC play against Pittsburgh this Saturday.
The Cards are coming off a 41-17 victory against Bowling Green. But head coach Jeff Brohm already has all his focus shifted onto Pittsburgh.
"We've got our first road test coming up this week - conference game, an important game, so we have to have a good week of practice. I think this is going to be a good test for us."
Louisville has an unblemished 3-0 record on the season, but Pittsburgh will be the Cards' first power conference opponent of the season. With a step up in competition, Brohm will look for his team to answer the call.
"They (Pittsburgh) play hard, they play aggressive, they play downhill, they take chances, they take risks and we're going to have to be really good at finding ways to defeat it and take care of the ball while we do that."
Brohm's squad was able to put together a complete game last season that resulted in the Cards defeating Pitt, 37-9. He is looking for the same thing from this year's team.
"As we've gone back and looked at last year's game, to be quite honest, we played as good as we could play. It was a really well-executed game plan by our guys on both sides of the ball. We just have to have a good plan and be able to execute it early, and that was the key to success last year, that's going to be key once again."
This will be Brohm's third meeting against the Panthers since becoming head coach of the Cards in 2023. He suffered his first loss as Louisville's head coach against Pittsburgh on the road in the 2023 season. He is looking to flip the script this time around.
"We did not have success there two years ago, and we will have to play much better this time around."
The game plan for Brohm and company is simple for their first road test, as well as the rest of the season.
"Being consistent, making sure that we are still creative in our attack and not too vanilla will be important."
The Cards will visit the Panthers on Saturday inside Acrisure Stadium for a noon ET kick.
