Cardinals Turn Attention to Bowling Green Following Bye Week
September 15, 2025 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm is ready to get his team back in action following a bye week after the 28-14 win over James Madison on Sept. 5 at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Â
After two wins to start the year, the Cards had their first bye week of the season. Even without a game, Brohm and the Cardinals were hard at work.
Â
"It's about improving on our last game, correcting some mistakes, getting a few guys a little healthy and fresh and ready to go and trying to come out and have our best performance," Brohm said. "Certain things were worked on, to a great degree, and concentrated on that have given us problems or that we haven't done as well on.
Â
The bye week also offered an opportunity to rest and recover after a pair of games.
Â
"Our players got a little break on Friday and Saturday. Practices were lighter and not quite as physical during the bye week," Brohm added. "There are a few guys that are nicked up, [the bye week] has been beneficial, so hopefully that pays off."
Â
Now, the Cards will turn their attention to Bowling Green for a noon ET game on Saturday, which can been seen on the ACC Network.
Â
Bowling Green, which is off to a 2-1 start, welcomed former Ohio State superstar and long-time NFL running back Eddie George to lead its football program.
Â
"Well, luckily, I've never had an opportunity to tackle him because that would not go over well. He was a great player, and I enjoyed watching him play," Brohm said of George. "He's done a great job being a young head coach. They've played really good football."
Louisville and Bowling Green meet for the first time this weekend, but Brohm knows his football team must be prepared for a team that will play hard and be well-prepared.
Â
"They are well coached," Brohm commented on Bowling Green. "They do it the right way. They believe in physical and fundamentally sound football on both sides of the ball. They're going to run the ball at you, and they're not going to turn the ball over. They're going to control the clock, and they're going to try to pop a few runs and throw the ball over your head.
Â
"On defense, they are very sound as well. They're going to try to not give up the big play, and they're going to cover down to your receivers. They're going to get lined up and set. All those things show up every week, and that's why they're 2-1."
Â
One of George's biggest offseason pickups was quarterback Drew Pyne from the transfer portal. Pyne had previous stops at Notre Dame, Arizona State and most recently Missouri.
A veteran player, Brohm praised Pyne and his ability to lead the offense through the first three games.
Â
"I think he's done a good job of running that offense. I think he's in a good spot where they're going to not only play to his strengths but play to the team's strengths and not put too much pressure on the quarterback to drop back and pass every play."
Â
The Cards and the Falcons face off on Saturday at L&N Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
