Jayden Ulrich Tabbed for Fourth Consecutive Bowerman Watch List
June 04, 2025 | Track & Field
Last week at the NCAA East Regional, the senior qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the women’s shot put and discus throw for the second straight season.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – University of Louisville women's track & field senior Jayden Ulrich has been included on the Women's Pre-NCAA Outdoor Championships Watch List for The Bowerman, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
With her inclusion on the final watch list of the season before the semifinalists are announced after the conclusion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Ulrich has now been included on four straight lists for the most prestigious award in collegiate track & field dating back to her first appearance on April 16.
The award is presented to the most outstanding male and female athlete in NCAA track & field and considers athletes' performances during the NCAA indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons with the performance window running from December 1 of the preceding year through the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the year in which the award is given.
Last week at the NCAA East Regional, Ulrich punched her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the women's shot put and women's discus throw for the second straight season, becoming the first Cardinal to qualify for the national championship meet in multiple events in back-to-back season since Emmonnie Henderson did so for three straight years from 2015 to 2017.
Ulrich won the regional title in the discus throw by over five meters with a final mark of 64.81m (212-7) as part of a field series that saw each of her three throws eclipse the 62-meter barrier, while also placing third at the meet in the shot put with a toss of 17.97m (58-11.5).
The senior will enter the national championship meet with an NCAA-leading mark of 66.14m (217-0) in the discus throw that came in her season debut at the USF Alumni Invitational on March 22, and also ranks fifth nationally in the women's shot put with a toss of 18.52m (60-9.25) at the Jim Click Shootout & Multis on April 4.
Additionally, Ulrich also moved up to second in collegiate history in the women's discus throw on April 12 at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational, where she posted a personal-best and program-record mark of 69.39m (227-8) that moved her up third in United States history in the event.
At the ACC Outdoor Championships in mid-May, Ulrich defended her conference titles in both the discus throw and shot put, breaking her own meet record in the discus with a toss of 62.89m (206-4) after winning the shot put earlier in the meet with a mark of 17.56m (57-7.5). With the two event victories, she secured 20 points for the Cardinals to lead them to a runner-up finish in the team standings and also earn Women's Field MVP honors for the championship meet.
The native of East Alton, Ill. also registered a historic indoor season that ended in the senior becoming the first athlete in program history to be named the USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Ulrich earned First Team All-American honors in the event after finishing sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the second consecutive season and captured her second straight ACC title in the event at the ACC Indoor Championships. She also shattered her own Louisville program record with a personal-best toss of 18.40m (60-4.5) at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on February 1.
