NEW ORLEANS – For the second consecutive season, the University of Louisville track & field program has claimed the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional awards for Women's Field Athlete of the Year, Synclair Savage, and Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, Bob Thurnhoffer, as announced by the organization on Friday.
Louisville's most recent national champion, Savage, claimed the Women's Field Athlete of the Year title for the Southeast Region after bringing home the NCAA title in long jump on June 12. She is the Cardinals' fifth outdoor national champion in program history and first in women's long jump.
Despite being seeded eighth, Savage moved from fourth to first on the last attempt of the competition and of her collegiate career, with a program-record jump of 6.72 meters (22-0.5). Prior to the national championship, she won the NCAA East Regional title with a jump of 6.63 meters (21-9.5), matching the farthest jump at the meet since 2017.
Savage won silver in long jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships, earning First Team All-ACC honors with a mark of 6.41 meters. The Acworth, Ga., native won six of the seven long jump competitions she competed in in the 2025 outdoor season.
Thurnhoffer coached Sharvari Parulekar to a Second Team All-American finish in the triple jump, in addition to Savage's long jump national championship. Parulekar placed 13th at the championship meet with a mark of 13.01 meters (42-8.25), the best finish in the event for a Louisville female in program history.
Thurnhoffer's athletes had five NCAA East Regional qualifications with Savage (long jump), Parulekar (triple jump), Sophia Day (long jump and triple jump) and Soledad Jean (high jump). Additionally, those same four athletes earned All-ACC honors under Thurnhoffer's guidance: Savage (First Team – Long Jump), Parulekar (First Team – Triple Jump), Day (Second Team – Long Jump) and Jean (Second Team – High Jump).
The jumps assistant coach led the women to make four record changes to the program's history. Savage set a new school record in long jump with her national championship mark while Parulekar is now third in school history in triple jump and Day is sixth in triple jump and ninth in the long jump.
