Louisville Falls Short in Match Against No. 19 Florida State

Cards sweep doubles play, but fall 4-2 to the Seminoles
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – The University of Louisville men's tennis team earned a pair of strong doubles victories, but fell short in singles play, dropping the match 4-2 to No. 19 Florida State.Â
No. 19 Florida State 4, Louisville 2
Miguel Avedaño and Will Mayew got doubles competition started for the Cards with a 6-1 victory on Court 3 to extend their win streak to three matches as a pair. The No. 77-ranked Louisville pair of Hamza El Amine and Natan Rodrigues clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on Court 2.Â
Florida State moved quickly in singles play and claimed the top two singles courts in straight sets.Â
Kosuke Nakanishi earned a hard-fought victory on Court 3 after a back-and-forth battle in the second set that ended in a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) win for the Sophomore.Â
The Seminoles clinched the match on Court 6 where Youcef Rihane claimed a victory over Enrique Peña, taking it down to the wire in a fierce second set that finished at 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Sophomore Piet Steveker was battling on Court 5 after winning the tiebreak in the first set, but the match was abandoned at 7-6 (9-7), 4-5.Â
Louisville (9-17, 1-11 ACC) will return home for its final homestand of the season. The Cards will face No. 44 Middle Tennessee on Thursday at 3 p.m. and then host a double header on Sunday with matches against No. 55 Notre Dame at noon and Dayton at 5 p.m.
