
Cards Fall to Florida State in ACC Tournament

The reigning ACC champs defeated Louisville by a score of 4-3
CARY, N.C. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team took the match down to the wire, but ultimately fell 4-3 to No. 6 seeded Florida State in the second round of the ACC Tournament.Â
No. 17 Florida State 4, No. 59 Louisville 3
Florida State made quick work on the top court in doubles competition as the No. 18 duo of Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane claimed a 6-1 victory. The Cards tied the competition quickly as Miguel Avendaño and Will Mayew took a 6-3 win on Court 2. All eyes were on Court 2 as the Seminoles duo rallied to win five games in a row to clinch the doubles point.Â
Down 1-0 heading into singles play, Hamza El Amine was the first to finish, taking down his opponents in straight sets to give the Cards their first point of the night.Â
Although close battles, Florida State claimed courts five then two in straight sets to take a commanding 3-1 lead.Â
Natan Rodrigues helped start a rally for the Cards as the senior took down No. 18 Corey Craig 6-4, 7-5 on the top court.Â
Using the momentum, Avendaño followed suit shortly after with a three-set victory on Court 4 by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to tie the competition at 3-3.Â
The match came down to Court 3 as Steinbach and Erik Schiessl were battling it out in the third set. The two opponents continuously traded games before Schiessl clinched a 4-3 win for the Seminoles on an intense deciding point.Â
The Cards end their season 13-18 with a 2-11 regular season ACC record. ITA placed Louisville at No. 59 in the latest poll with Mayew as the lone player ranked individually at No. 81.Â
