No. 7 Cardinals Set for Second Round Matchup with No. 2 TCU

The Cardinals are 12-2 all-time in the second round under Jeff Walz
FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 7 seed Louisville Cardinals (22-10) postseason run continues on Sunday evening as a spot in the Sweet 16 is on the line. The Cardinals are set to face No. 2 seed TCU (32-3) in a second round matchup from Schollmaier Arena. The Cardinals and Horned Frogs will square off at 6 p.m. ET and aired nationally on ESPN.
The Cardinals advanced to the second round after the 63-58 win over Nebraska on Friday in the first round. In a game filled with runs, the Cardinals trailed by four with six minutes left after the Huskers opened the final quarter on a 10-0 run. Louisville responded by scoring 13 of the final 17 points of the game to pull out the win.
A trio of Cardinals scored in double figures, led by 16 points from Tajianna Roberts in her first career NCAA Tournament game. Playing in just her second career tournament game, Jayda Curry scored 13 points, including back-to-back buckets, to give the Cardinals the lead in the fourth. Olivia Cochran was the third player in double figures with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Moving on to the second round, the Cardinals are 12-2 all-time in the second round under Walz. The Cardinals have won six-straight games in the second round of the NCAA Tournament dating back to 2016. Louisville has won five second round games in true road games including 2023 against Texas, 2015 against South Florida, 2014 against Iowa, 2011 against Xavier and 2009 against LSU.

Last Meeting (Mar., 6, 2005) - Ashley Davis scored all 13 of her points in the second half to lead Texas Christian to a 60-41 win over Louisville on Sunday in the championship game of the Conference USA women's basketball tournament. The victory gives TCU (23-9) its second conference tournament championship in three seasons and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Louisville, the tournament's second seed, had taken its only lead of the game, 28-27 with 13:30 remaining, when Davis scored six consecutive points and nine of the Horned Frogs' next 11. TCU then held the Cardinals to three points over the final 7:32. Conference USA player of the year Sandora Irwin led all players with 21 points while Jazz Covington scored 19 for the Cardinals (22-8). Louisville suffered a setback when it lost starting forward Yuliya Tokova, who left the game at the 16:31 mark of the first half with an injury to her right knee and did not return.
