LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's golf team is back in action next week as they head south to the Lone Star State for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Par 72, 6,473-yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The tournament will begin on Monday, March 17 with 36 holes scheduled and finish on Tuesday, March 18 with the final 18 holes.
The Cardinals are coming off their first tournament of the spring last month when they hosted the eighth-annual Moon Golf Invitational. Held down in Melbourne, Florida, the Cardinals placed 11th overall in a field that had 16 teams ranked inside the Top 60. The Cards finished ahead of No. 10 Virginia, No. 41 Tennessee, No. 19 LSU and No. 40 Clemson on the leaderboard last month.
The Cards will see some familiar teams on the course this week as a few teams from Moon Golf will also be at the Betsy Rawls. The teams include hosts No. 6 Texas, No. 13 LSU and No. 40 Tennessee. The Betsy Rawls field is made up of 13 schools with four ranked in the Top 25 and nine ranked in the Top 60 of the most recent rankings.
At the Moon Golf Invitational, the Cardinals had two players finish in the Top 20 of the final leaderboard. The Cards were led by Carmen Griffiths, who posted an even-par 216 for the tournament and finished tied for 10th overall. Griffiths had two rounds at or under par at Moon Golf and she leads the team with seven par or better rounds this season. Freshman Bailey Burkett finished tied for 19th with a 3-over-par 219 for her second Top 20 finish of the season. She shot a season-best 71 in the second round.
