Cardinals Close Road Trip Against No. 11 Duke
February 19, 2025 | Women's Basketball
It is the fourth ranked team the Cardinals have faced in their last five games
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's basketball team (18-7, 11-3 ACC) is back from their final bye day of the season and another ranked opponent awaits them for a road matchup. The Cardinals are traveling to Durham to square off with No. 11 Duke (20-6, 11-3 ACC) on Thursday evening. The Cardinals and Blue Devils will face off at 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
The Cardinals are in the midst of a grueling stretch in their schedule since the calendar flipped to February. Thursday's matchup with Duke will be the fourth ranked team the Cardinals have faced in their previous five games. They have won each of their last two ranked matchups with a 70-63 home win over No. 21 Cal and an 83-69 road win over No. 23/21 Florida State.
Looking at their remaining schedule, it does not get any easier. As of Wednesday, the Cardinals have the ninth-toughest remaining schedule in the country, which leads the ACC. Of their four remaining games, three of their opponents are ranked and they are all ranked in the Top 15 (No. 11 Duke, No. 9 North Carolina and No. 1 Notre Dame).
In the recent win over No. 23/21 Florida State, the Louisville defense held the nation's top offensive at bay. Coming into the game, the Seminoles were averaging 92.1 points per game but the Cardinals held them to a season-low 69 points. They had scored 70 or more points in each of their previous 24 games this season.
Tajianna Roberts collected her first career double-double with a team-leading 17 points and career-best 10 rebounds. She was named ACC Rookie of the Week earlier this week for the fifth time this season, tied for the most of any player in the ACC this season. Roberts has 20 double-digit scoring games this season, the most of any ACC freshman. She has also accounted for 18.1 percent of Louisville's total points this season, the highest of any ACC freshman.

They will be the 10th ranked opponent the Cardinals have faced so far this season. The Blue Devils are coming off a road loss (49-64) to No. 1 Notre Dame this past Monday but they are 11-0 in home games this season. Duke has one of the best scoring defenses in the league as they rank second in the ACC by limiting opponents to 58.7 points per game. Duke has some of the best production from their bench in the country as they rank third nationally with 32.5 bench points per game.
Series History - This will be the 13th meeting all-time between the two teams and the 11th meeting as conference foes in the ACC. Louisville holds the all-time series history advantage with a 8-4 record but are 2-4 in games played down in Durham. However, Louisville has won six of their last seven games against the Blue Devils dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Last Meeting (Jan. 4, 2024) - The No. 17/16 Louisville women's basketball team (13-2, 2-0) secured a 61-44 victory over Duke (9-5, 1-2) this evening to earn the 1,000th win in program history. The Cardinals are the 27th program in the nation and the fourth program in the ACC to achieve this feat. The Cards played a dominant first half on both sides of the ball, holding Duke to a season-low four points in the second quarter alone. Louisville went on a 16-0 run that elapsed 9:18 in the first half, putting them up 35-19 after two frames. Coming out of the locker room, Duke was able to get a few more points on the board but could not stop an immediate 8-3 run by the Cards. Louisville has now won 41-straight games when allowing 59 points or less. The Cardinals improve to 53-0 at home against unranked ACC opponents since joining the league in 2014-15. The 44 points allowed were the fewest points scored by the Blue Devils this season.
