CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two University of Louisville track & field athletes have been recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference as part of the first round of ACC weekly awards for the 2025-26 indoor season, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
After a pair of record-breaking performances in their season debuts, Alba Cuns Iglesias was named the ACC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Elsingi Kipruto was recognized as the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week.
In her first competitive action since suffering a fracture in her spine following the conclusion of the 2024 outdoor season, Cuns Iglesias posted an NCAA-leading mark in the women's triple jump at the Commonwealth College Opener on Dec. 6 to earn the first ACC weekly honor of her career.
On her second attempt of the competition, the redshirt junior bounded to a leap of 13.25m (43-5.75) that not only moved her to the top of the national leaderboard after the first week of the season but also eclipsed the previous Louisville program record of 13.24m (43-5.25) that had stood since 2008.
After a stellar cross country season that saw him earn ACC Men's Freshman of the Year honors, Kipruto set a new 5000m school record in his collegiate indoor debut at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 6.
The native of Mosoriot, Kenya won the open section of the men's 5000m with a time of 13:29.37 that currently ranks 13thin the NCAA and first among freshmen nationally. The time also knocked over 10 seconds off the previous program record of 13:41.10 while also bettering the Louisville freshman record by roughly 15 seconds.
The Cardinals will return to the indoor oval on Jan. 9-10 when the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky, comes to the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
