Onofrei, Steinbach Ready to Compete in NCAA Doubles Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After a successful fall slate, University of Louisville doubles tandem of Matei Onofrei and Andre' Steinbach are set for postseason competition at the NCAA Doubles Championship in Orlando, Fla.

The doubles tournament will begin on November 19 and will have one round played each day with the Championship round landing on Nov. 23.

The newcomer and returner pair punched their ticket to the NCAA Championship after becoming co-champions in doubles at ITA South Sectionals. They defeated Matteo Antonescu and Michael Andre from regional rival Indiana by a score of 4-6, 6-1,10-5 in the semifinals to earn their trip to nationals.

During their fall season, the pair held a record of 7-1 with their lone loss coming in a tiebreaker in the semifinals of ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.

Onofrei and Steinbach will face the No. 5-6–seeded Ohio State pair of Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima in the first round of the tournament.

Kim and Nakashima are ranked at No. 15 in the preseason ITA doubles poll. The Buckeyes pair earned their spot in the tournament after defeating teammates Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo in the finals of ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.

The two doubles teams will face off tomorrow at USTA National Campus with a time or court yet to be announced. All matches will be streamed by Cracked Racquets on ESPN+.
