Cards Close Road Trip at SMU

The Cards have won eight of their last nine games
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's basketball team (14-6, 7-2 ACC) is set to close the month of January out on the road as it finishes its three-game road trip this week. Louisville heads to Texas to take on ACC newcomer SMU (10-11, 2-7 ACC) on Thursday night. The Cardinals and Mustangs are set to face off at 8 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Thursday's game at SMU will be the Cardinals 10th road game of the season and 13th away from the Yum! Center this season. The 10 road games up to this point in the season is tied for the most in the ACC with #10 Duke. The Cards are 7-2 in those road games and are tied with #3 Notre Dame for the most road wins in the ACC this season. The seven road wins are also tied for the most of any team in the Power Four leagues.
The Cardinals have one of the toughest schedules in the ACC and in the nation this season. The Cardinals schedule is ranked 16th in the country and is the third toughest in the ACC behind #10 Duke (2nd) and #17/#16 NC State (9th). When looking at the remaining schedule, the Cardinals schedule is 13th in the nation, which is tops in the ACC. The second toughest remaining schedule in the ACC belongs to Miami, which is ranked 20th.
In the most recent win over Virginia, Jayda Curry had another strong game for the Cardinals. She set a career high with five three-pointers, which we all made in the first half. She finished with a team-best 19 points and tied a career high with a team-high eight assists.
Nyla Harris scored 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting while Olivia Cochran had her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Tajianna Roberts set a career high with nine rebounds, tied a career high with four assists and had 11 points in the win. Louisville improved to 5-1 this season following a loss after the win over the Cavaliers.

SMU has wins over Stanford (67-63) and Syracuse (72-71) in overtime in their first season in the ACC but they have dropped each of their last five games against Pitt (59-72), #14 North Carolina (33-64), #3 Notre Dame (64-88), #14 Duke (46-81) and Miami (63-70). The Mustangs have two of the ACC and country's best when it comes to scoring and rebounding. Jessica Peterson leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally with 12.3 rebounds per game. She has 259 rebounds on the season, the third most in the country. Peterson is second in the league and 22nd nationally with nine double-doubles on the season. Nya Robertson is third in the ACC and 35th nationally with 19.0 points per game. Robertson is a volume shooter as she ranks second nationally with 392 field goal attempts and third in the country with 163 three point attempts. SMU as a team is second in the ACC and 17th in the NCAA with 42.3 rebounds per game this season.
Series History - This will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools as they are in the same conference for the second time in their history. The Cardinals and Mustangs were brief conference members when Louisville was in The American Athletic Conference during the 2013-14 season before joining the ACC. Louisville (18-1, 6-0 American Athletic), after trailing by eight before halftime, got its 11 consecutive points in a span of only 79 seconds. Tia Gibbs had 20 points to lead five players in double-figure scoring for Louisville, which beat SMU for the second time in three weeks - the Cards won the AAC opener at home 71-51 on Dec. 29. Schimmel had 12 points, while Taylor had 11. Hammond had 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Bria Smith had seven points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
