Cards Continue Road Trip at Virginia

The Cards are back on the road after their first bye date of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's basketball team is back in action this weekend following their first bye date of this season this past Thursday. The Cards will pick up in the middle of their current three-game road trip as they head back to the Commonwealth of Virginia to take on the Cavaliers. The Cardinals and Cavaliers will square off at 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on The CW.
Louisville is 6-2 in road games this season and have played 11 games away from home this year. The six road wins are second in the ACC this year and the eight road games also are second in the league.
Heading into the weekend, the Cards have the 17th toughest schedule in the nation and are ranked No. 40 in the NET rankings. The Cards are third in the ACC for the toughest schedule. Of the 16 teams ranked ahead of them, only one team (Duke, 5-4) has played more road games than the Cardinals at this point in the season.
In conference play this season, the Cardinals have had balanced scoring from their starting five. Four of the five starters have averaged 10 points or more in ACC play, led by Tajianna Roberts as she has averaged a team-best 13.0 points per game. Jayda Curry (11.8), Nyla Harris (10.6) and Olivia Cochran (10.1) rounded out the group of starters averaging 10 points or more.
Ja'Leah Williams is not far behind, as she averages 9.1 points per game in ACC play. Williams has also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game against ACC opponents. Williams has scored in double figures in each of her last four games, including a season-best 13 points against #13 Georgia Tech. Williams tallied her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against Syracuse.

Last Meeting (Feb. 25, 2024) - The No. 20 Louisville women's basketball team (22-7, 11-5 ACC) fell to the Virginia Cavaliers (14-13, 6-10 ACC) this afternoon, 73-68. Nyla Harris recorded a team-high 17 points while adding nine rebounds today. Sydney Taylor followed with 15 points on 3-for-8 shooting beyond the arc and Kiki Jefferson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals started off the game lacking momentum, unable to pull down some critical defensive rebounds in the first half. Virginia had five steals and out-rebounded the Cards 24-14 in the first 20 minutes of action. Louisville was down 32-26 at the half. However, Louisville came out for the third quarter ready to battle. The Cards went on a 24-8 run to secure an eight-point lead with two minutes remaining in the third frame. Taylor contributed with two triples, swinging the momentum back in the Cards' direction. Louisville began the fourth quarter with a 54-47 advantage. The Cavaliers responded quickly, however, and tied the game at 61 with under five minutes to go in regulation. A 20-5 Virginia run spanning 7:23 put the game away for good and the Cavaliers won by a five-point margin.
