Cardinals Begin Road Trip with Virginia Tech
January 18, 2025 | Women's Basketball
This is the first of three-straight road games for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's basketball team (13-5, 6-1 ACC) is heading back out on the road as their next three matchups will be away from home with their first bye week in the middle. Up first for the Cardinals is a trip to Blacksburg to face off with Virginia Tech (12-5, 3-3 ACC) to close out the weekend. The Cardinals and Hokies are set to square off at 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network.
The Cardinals have enjoyed the New Year as they are still undefeated in 2025 and riding a seven-game winning streak into Sunday afternoon's clash. Louisville's streak dates back to Dec. 15 and the Cardinals have won each of their last six conference games as they sit in second place overall in the league through seven league games. During the streak, the Cardinals have limited opponents to 64.4 points per game and have allowed just two opponents to score over 70 points, and one of those occasions occurred in an overtime game.
Tajianna Roberts has been one of the spark plugs for the Cardinals in her first collegiate season. She leads the team in scoring this season with 12.9 points per game and has elevated her game during the winning streak. She is averaging 16.1 points per game over the last seven games and has led the team in scoring in each of the last three games. She earned her third ACC Rookie of the Week accolade earlier this week. She has scored in double figures in 15 of her 18 games this season, the most of any ACC freshman.
Another player that has shined during the winning streak has been Jayda Curry. On the season, she is second on the squad with 11.1 points per game but she is averaging 12.9 over the course of the winning streak. She has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and had her best game of the season against Miami on Jan. 2. Curry scored a season-best 21 points and tied a career high with four made three-pointers.
In the most recent win over Syracuse on Thursday, the Cards had a pair of double-doubles for the second time this season. Nyla Harris posted 10 points and a season-best 11 rebounds for her eighth career double-double and third of her career against Syracuse. Ja'Leah Williams recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while adding a team-best seven assists.
