LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team will face a unique challenge with the high speed Jacksonville State offense coming to L&N Stadium for Saturday's 3:30 p.m. non-conference kickoff.
"We have to be ready for the speed of the Jacksonville State offense," head coach Jeff Brohm said. "They run a high-tempo attack that can cause problems for our defense. We have to get our signals in a be lined up to play football."
The Gamecocks dropped a 55-27 decision to Coastal Carolina last Friday at home, and certainly didn't play their best football. Jacksonville State turned the football over three times in the loss and gave up a number of big plays in the loss to open  the season.
"We have to be ready to play," Brohm said. "We did some good things last week but that's over with. We have a new challenge this week and we have to be ready to play."
Louisville opened the year with a 62-0 win over Austin Peay last Saturday.Tyler Shough made his debut going 18-of-24 for 232 yards and four touchdowns, tying the school mark for the most touchdowns in a UofL debut. Ja'Corey Brooks caught one of those touchdowns and Jadon Thompson added two more.
The defense pitched its third shut out in the last two seasons, holding Austin Peay to 106 yards of offense. Louisville recorded 14 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks to win it's opener in impressive fashion.
Louisville will have to be better on Saturday when they face Jacksonville State's rushing attack under head coach Rich Rodriguez.
"Coach Rodriguez is a great offensive coach," Brohm said. "We will have to be ready to stop their running game and we have to play fast on offense and execute."Â
The game can only be seen on ACC Network Extra streaming services.
