Redman Looks to Have Success in Brohm’s Offense
September 05, 2024 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In his debut game with the University of Louisville, tight end Mark Redman made an immediate impact by catching an over-the-shoulder touchdown pass. His contribution helped propel the Cardinals to a commanding 62-point victory.
Redman, a redshirt senior, began his playing career at the University of Washington and San Diego State University before transferring to Louisville. In his time with the Aztecs, Redman was named second-team All-Mountain West in a season where he recorded 38 catches for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.
Redman, one of the last transfers to join the Louisville squad, began practicing with the team in summer camp.
"I was able to come out here, fortunately, two or three times during spring ball and was able to meet some of the guys," Redman said. "With the transfer portal, I knew some players through teammates that I have played with. When I finally got here, I was welcomed with open arms. It just goes to show what this city and team can do. This last game just showed it. It's amazing to be accepted here. I love it here."
Redman noted that some of the key factors that led to his decision to come to Louisville were the relationship he built with Tight Ends Coach Ryan Wallace and the previous success that tight ends, similar to himself, have seen in the Jeff Brohm offense.
"The first time I met with coach Ryan Wallace, I realized his personality stands for what Louisville is all about. He is an outgoing guy. When I first got here, I could tell that it was similar to the entire coaching staff and the city," Redman said. "If you look back in the history of coach Brohm's offense, you can see that the tight end position is relevant and that intrigued me just being able to come out here and what they already had in the tight end room was special, and being able to add to that was even better."
Redman brought in his lone catch of the day in the endzone for a 21-yard score near two Governors defenders. The Cardinals tight end spoke to the accuracy of the pass from quarterback Tyler Shough which put him in prime position to secure the touchdown grab.
"It was something we practiced for weeks on end coming into fall camp," Redman noted. "If you look at the catch, it was good. If you look at the pass, it was better. If the pass was two inches higher or lower, it wouldn't have happened. Shout out to the whole team for that play."
Redman attributed his success to being able to face the Cardinals tough defense in practice. Louisville's defensive effort held Austin Peay to 108 yards of total offense on Saturday.
"I personally go against Ashton Gillotte, Ramon (Puryear), Adonijah (Green), and all of those defensive line guys in practice. It shows what the defense can do with seven sacks and 14 TFLs. When I saw that after the game, it surprised me a little, but I knew those guys were capable of that. I was impressed by the defense."
Redman and the Louisville offense will look to build on their impressive week one performance on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET against Jacksonville State.
