September 29, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Mackenzie Geigle scored her fifth goal of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's soccer team (6-3-2, 1-2-0 ACC) got back on track with its 1-0 win over NC State (3-7-2, 0-3-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. In their first home game in three weeks, the Cards used a second half goal from Mackenzie Geigle to collect their sixth win of the season. With the win, Louisville improved to 5-1-1 at home this year.
It was a scoreless first half after 45 minutes as neither team recorded a shot on goal. It was the eighth time this season the Cardinals have held their opponent scoreless in the first half.
In the second half, the Cardinals had three-straight corner kicks in the 57th minute and the third one was the charm.
Betsy Huckaby sent an arching ball towards the far post where Geigle got her head to the ball and sent it into the back of the net. It was Geigle's fifth goal of the season and the first career assist for Huckaby.
NC State looked to tie the game up in the 62nd minute on a corner of their own. The ball bounced around the box and found the foot of Jade Bordeleau. She got a shot off but Kailey Kimball was able to come up with the save.
The Wolfpack had one more shot on goal in the 69th minute but Kimball was able to come up with the save to seal the win. The Cards picked up their fourth shutout of the season with the win over the Wolfpack.
Louisville's stay at home will be short lived as they head back out on the road again this coming week. The Cardinals head south to the Triangle for a matchup with North Carolina on October 3 and then they stay to face off with Duke on October 6.
