LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Cardinals are focused heading into their matchup against Notre Dame this upcoming weekend.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Head Coach Jeff Brohm called it "a great chance to test and see exactly how we stack up against one of the nation's best.
"This is big time football."
Last year the 25th-ranked Cardinals hosted the 10th-ranked Fighting Irish, beating them 33-20. With Louisville having won last year's meeting, Brohm is prepared to receive Notre Dame's best shot.
"Because the game didn't go the way they wanted to last year, we expect their best. They will be ready to play, and they will be fired up to win this football game."
After UofL's win against Georgia Tech last weekend, the Cardinals rose in the AP Top 25 to 15th, one spot above 16th-ranked Notre Dame as they head into this week of practice.
Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard is a familiar face, having previous faced the Cardinals with Duke. He will also provide many of the same challenges as previous opposing quarterbacks.
"He is very similar to the quarterback we faced last week versus Georgia Tech. He can run the football, he can use his legs to win," Jeff Brohm said. "He still has the ability to throw the ball, so I just think it will be another good test for our defense. We'll have to be really sharp."
Saturday's game will provide a special opportunity for the Louisville program.
"We understand what this game means. It's important like every game, but this is just a great opponent, in their venue, and that can be special if we find a way to win."
Brohm's message while preparing for this game: "you've got to come ready to play, you've got to give it everything you've got, you've got to lay it on the line, you've got to be aggressive and take some shots, and you've got to try to win."
Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals are looking forward to Sept. 28 as they head to South Bend, Ind. to kickoff against Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. ET.
