Shough, Brohm Confident in Offense Heading into the 2024 Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With the University of Louisville coming off a ten-win season in 2023, UofLoffensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brian Brohm is confident in the experienced quarterback, Tyler Shough, he has picked to lead the offense in the upcoming 2024 season.
Tyler Shough, going into his seventh collegiate season, is a veteran when it comes to learning new offenses, with experience at other Power 5 programs at Oregon and Texas Tech. Shough, in four games last season for Texas Tech, threw for 746 yards before his season was cut short due to injury.
"I think Tyler has a really good grasp of what we are trying to do on offense but from day one he has come in and he has been a leader," Brohm said. "He dove right in to try to learn everything, and right now, he feels really comfortable with the system. He's had a really good camp, a really good offseason, and is able to go out there and generate some big plays which has been exciting to watch."
Shough has demonstrated his ability to handle adversity similarly to those at the next level of football.
"Because he's been through a lot of different situations, he has those to draw back on and he can relay those to his teammates," Brohm said, "It's kind of what you see when you go to the next level and you deal with some of those quarterbacks that have been through it."
With each of the top backup quarterbacks having game experience under their belt, Brohm is confident that when the time comes, he will be able to call upon a name.
Pierce Clarkson, a former top 100 recruit, is going into his second season of experience with the Cardinals. Clarkson is one of the top contenders for the backup quarterback role heading into the home opener.
"Pierce has done a good job of grasping the offense," Brohm stated. "He's confident in what he's done."
Harrison Bailey, Brady Allen, and Deuce Adams are also names to look for in the Cardinals quarterback arsenal.
Brady Allen has familiarity with the Brohm offense due to following both head coach Jeff Brohm and offensive coordinator Brian Brohm to Louisville from Purdue.
"Brady has been in our system for three years, so he knows what's going on out there," Brian Brohm said.
Brohm, when asked about a definitive backup quarterback for the offense, added "We're going to continue to let those guys battle it out and compete and get reps."
Brian Brohm and his offense are looking forward to the Cardinals season opener on Aug. 31 vs. Austin Peay at L&N Federal Credit Union stadium at 12 p.m. ET.
