July 31, 2024 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville officially opened year two of the Jeff Brohm era when the Cards opened fall camp on Wednesday afthere ernoon inside the Trager Indoor Practice Facility.
The Cardinals, who were 10-4 last season, returned to the field after suffering a loss in the Holiday Bowl to USC. UofL dropped its final three games, and Brohm knows his team is ready to turn the page.
"The guys worked hard all summer, and I was pleased with how they came out today. It wasn't a great practice, but our guys our hungry. There is a long way to go, but I'm confident we will get there."
Louisville worked on the field for two hours after rain forced the team indoors.nd pop.
"We gave the guys a few days off so they came back a little rusty," said Brohm. "I thought our guys were locked in and focused. There was some good effort out there, but we will have to keep that energy up this week.
The Cardinals welcomed 40 newcomers to the field on Wednesday, including quarterback Tyler Shough, who heads into the camp as the starter. Shough transferred in from Texas Tech after throwing for 746 yards and seven touchdowns a year ago.
"We like Tyler,' said Brohm. "He's put a lot of hard work in and he knows the offense. He can throw the ball and move around. He's thrown the ball sharp and knows our package."
The offense will look different after losing a pair of NFL running back in Isaac Guerendo and Jawhar Jordan, who combined to rush for over 1,900 yards and 21 touchdowns from a year ago. Jordan rushed for 1,128 yards before being drafted in the sixth round.
"I think Maurice Turner has had a good spring and summer, and knows the package," Brohm said. "I think Keyjuan Brown is young, but he has some strength and some pop. Isaac Brown is extremely fast.  Â
Louisville takes Thursday off before working out under the lights in L&N Stadium on Friday night at 6 p.m.
