Donnet, Rodrigues beat Old Dominion; move to Round of 16
STILLWATER, Okla. – UofL men's tennis duo Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues will advance to the Round of 16 at the 2024 NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Championship after an opening-round victory over Old Dominion on Tuesday evening.
In the first set, the Cardinals absolutely dominated, winning the first five games to take a 5-0 lead. After conceding the next, UofL went on to win the opening set 6-1.
In the second set, whichever team served the game was the victor. The two tandems alternated game victories all set long. UofL was down 4-5, in a situation where the Cards had to win to avoid a third set, and they kept the trend going: serving and winning.
The trend continued all the way to a 6-6 score, forcing a tiebreaker. Louisville ultimately won the tiebreaker (7-4), the set (7-6) and the match (2-0).
The Cardinals will now play #22 Niels Ratiu/Freddy Blaydes of Georgia on Wednesday in the Round of 16. The time of the match has yet to be determined.
