Cards Break Two More Program Records to Close First Weekend of Outdoor Season
March 30, 2024 | Track & Field
Ian Kibiwot bettered his own record mark in the men’s 10000m, while Jayden Ulrich set a new school record in the women’s shot put after breaking the discus throw record yesterday.
Ian Kibiwot and Jayden Ulrich both set new program records on Saturday as the University of Louisville track & field teams completed their first weekend of the outdoor season at the Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational and Stanford Invitational.
Â
Kibiwot made his season debut on the outdoor oval early Saturday morning at the Stanford Invitational, bettering his own school record in the men's 10000m by a full second, clocking a time of 28:26.67.
Â
The Cardinals also got a record-setting performance in the women's shot put at the Texas Relays as Ulrich followed up her school-record toss in the discus throw on Friday afternoon by notching a program-record mark of 18.00m (59-0.75) on her final attempt of the competition to finish as the event's runner-up. The heave narrowly eclipsed the previous record of 17.98m (59-0) that was set in 2017 by Emmonnie Henderson.
Â
Brion Stephens set a personal-best mark of his own in Austin, clearing a bar of 2.23m (7-3.75) in the men's high jump to place third overall in the first outdoor action of his sophomore season.
Â
At the Bobcat Invitational, the Cards saw Rachel Darden bound to a personal-best mark of 12.51m (41-0.5) to finish third in the women's triple jump while Sophia Day registered a wind-aided mark of 12.43m (40-9.5) to claim fourth.
Â
The Cardinals are set to continue the outdoor campaign on Friday, Apr. 5 when they take part in Bellarmine's Jim Vargo Invitational.
