ABOUT THE TIGERS
Memphis enters the final game before Christmas break with a 2-8 overall record after a 90-75 loss to #18/#16 Tennessee at FedEx Forum on Wednesday before they host the Cardinals on Saturday at FedEx. The Tigers have wins over Mississippi Valley State (89-87) and Samford (88-75) and losses to Mississippi State (56-100), Ball State (66-95), Southeastern Louisiana (57-63), Murray State (83-87), ETSU (71-78), Southern Miss (69-82) and Troy (67-85). Memphis has played a lot of their non-conference slate on the road as they will host just their fifth and sixth home game this week. The Tigers are 2-3 so far this season in games at home. As a team, Memphis does not foul much as they rank 39th nationally with 12.0 fouls per game. Forward Tamya Smith ranks second in the American and 28th nationally with 4.0 steals per game heading into their mid-week matchup against Tennessee. Memphis added DeeDee Hagemann to the lineup this week after she sat out the fall semester. She tallied 19 points in her first game with the Tigers after transferring from Michigan State this summer.
Series History - This will be the 47th all-time meeting between the Cardinals and Tigers as they are former conference foes in the Metro, Conference USA and most recently the American during the 2013-14 season. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in 10 years and the Cardinals have won six games in a row against the Tigers. Louisville is 7-12 all-time in games played in Memphis but they have won each of the last two matchups played down there.
Last Meeting (Feb. 16, 2014) - A quick burst to open the second half was all No. 4 Louisville needed to pull away from Memphis. Emmonnie Henderson scored a career-best 19 points, Shoni Schimmel added 18, and the Cardinals beat Memphis 82-66 on Sunday. The Cardinals (25-2, 13-1 American Athletic Conference) broke the game open with a 14-2 run at the start of the second half. Schimmel had scored the last basket of the first half to take a double-digit lead into the break. Louisville connected on its first five shots of the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers from Schimmel, to extend the lead to 53-32 with 16:13 left, enough for the Cardinals to coast home. Henderson was 9 of 14 from the field, and Louisville shot 54 percent overall. Schimmel, who ranks second in the nation in 3-pointers per game, was 4 of 10 from outside the arc. Louisville went 8 of 18 after starting 7 of 11.
