No. 17 Louisville Cruise Past Southern Indiana in Home Opener, 75-51

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 17 Louisville women's basketball team opened their home slate Friday night with a victory over regional foe Southern Indiana, 75-51, at the KFC Yum! Center. With the win the Cards improve to 16-2 in home openers under Jeff Walz.
Olivia Cochran led the way for UofL, contributing 15 points and a game-high six rebounds on the night.
Freshman Tajianna Roberts continued her hot start from behind the arc this season, netting three triples to give her 11 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists.
Imari Berry was solid off the bench, pulling down a game-high eight rebound in 19 minutes of action.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 7-2 lead to begin the game, including a pair of steals that translated to quick offense for UofL. The rest of the quarter was tightly contested as Southern Indiana grabbed the lead with three minutes remaining in the quarter. Merissah Russell provided a spark off the bench, knocking down three triples for nine quick points, giving Louisville a one-point lead going into the second quarter.
UofL found their rhythm in the second quarter, jumping out to a 15-0 run led by a pair of triples by Roberts. The Cardinals ramped up their defense as well, holding the Screaming Eagles to just four points while forcing 11 turnovers, taking a 43-25 lead at the break.
The Cards picked up right where they left off to begin the third quarter, jumping out to a 13-6 run to stretch the lead to 27. Cochran led the way with six points in the quarter, boasting her total to 15 on the night.
The fourth quarter saw the Cardinals mount their biggest lead of the game, stretching out to 30 at the beginning of the quarter to put the game out of reach.
Louisville will be back in action next Tuesday as they travel to Tennessee to face UT Martin. The Cards and Skyhawks will face off at 7 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed on ESPN plus.
