No. 18/17 Cardinals Travel to UT Martin
November 11, 2024 | Women's Basketball
This will be the first true road game of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 18/17 Louisville women's basketball team (1-1) is heading back out on the road this week as two road clashes with regional foes are on deck. First up for the Cardinals is a trip to Martin, Tennessee to take on UT Martin (0-2) this Tuesday, November 12. The Cardinals and Skyhawks are set to square off at 7 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Louisville is coming off its home-opening 75-51 win over Southern Indiana Friday night. After a close first quarter, the Cards limited the Screaming Eagles to just four points in the second quarter and never looked back en route to their first win of the season. With the win, Louisville improved to 16-2 in home openers under head coach Jeff Walz.
Tajianna Roberts continued the strong start to her collegiate career with 11 points, team-high four assists and four rebounds in the win over USI. She is the only Louisville player to score in double figures in each of the first two games of the season. Olivia Cochran led the Cards with 15 points on Friday night on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor.
The Cardinals spread the wealth around in the win over USI as 11 different players scored on the night. Of those 11, 10 players tallied four or more points against the Screaming Eagles. The Cardinals had three games last season where 11 players scored and they were 3-0 in those games.
The Cardinals have had a lot of success on the road over the past few seasons as they get ready for their first true road contest of the year. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Cardinals are 69-17 in true road games. Louisville is fifth in the NCAA in road wins and sixth in road winning percentage (.802) during that span. The Cardinals will have a lot of games away from home during their non-conference slate. Seven of their 11 non-conference games will either be on the road or at neutral venues.

ABOUT THE SKYHAWKS
UT Martin comes into Tuesday's matchup with a 0-2 record after dropping both of their games during the opening week of the season. The Skyhawks lost their season opener, 66-63, to North Alabama this past Monday and then went on the road and lost 90-50 in Knoxville this past Thursday. UT Martin is coming off a 2023-24 season where they went 16-17 overall and were 11-7 in OVC play. The Skyhawks made the NCAA Tournament as the OVC representative even though they fell in the OVC Championship game to the Cardinals previous opponent, Southern Indiana. The Skyhawks return three of the five starters from the NCAA Tournament appearance last season.

The Cards are 9-0 against the Skyhawks in games played in Louisville and 3-0 in games played in Martin. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Nov. 17, 2021 and the first time the two teams have played in Martin since Dec. 19, 2019. In their last meeting in Martin, Louisville won 71-63 in double overtime.

Center. Engstler finished the game shooting 7-of-9 from the floor, while her four 3-pointers tied her career-high. Kianna Smith scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and 2-of-3 from deep. Olivia Cochran added six points and seven rebounds, while Liz Dixon chipped in six points and four rebounds. The Cardinals had 17 assists on 23 made field goals.
