October 24, 2024 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Fresh off a loss to No. 6 Miami in front of a sell-out crowd at L&N Stadium, the University of Louisville football team looks to put the past behind them when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a critical Atlantic Coast Conference game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. versus Boston College on ESPN2.
The Cardinals are 4-3 and 2-2 in the ACC, and face a must-win situation on Friday night against a Boston College program that is coming off a 48-21 road loss to Virginia Tech.
"We are going to work hard to get better this week, we got a good opponent who is playing some good football, Brohm said."They started off really hot and had a couple close game that they didn't end up winning, that they easily could have. So, we got to go on the road and find a way to win and that'll be a really good ball game."
The first half of this season may not have been what Louisville expected, but the Cardinals' mindset is unwavering.
Defensive lineman Thor Griffith commented; "we still have a lot to play for whether that be for ourselves or the guys next to us so it doesn't really change anything in terms of our mindset."
Brohm has taught his team to be adaptable during a college football season because he wants his players to be prepared for anything. Brohm likes to talk about the simple things.
"It has got to be a one-game season once we get to the season, no matter whether we win or lose. You got to learn from it and move on and get better," said Jeff Brohm.
A transfer from San Diego State. Mark Redman is a seasoned tight end who is very proud of the current energy shown in the locker room because he and his teammates know what they are capable of in winning games.
"This team has a good attitude and is ready to get back out there," Redman said. "We know we have let a couple of games slip away with crucial mistakes in one-possession games. We have to learn from it and correct those mistakes."
The Cards face a BC team that is led by quarterback Thomas Castellanos, another dual-threat quarterback that will give the Cards problems on defense. While picking up a 56-28 win last season over the Eagles, Castellanos accounted for four touchdowns, including three through the air.
"He presents challenges so we're going to have to have a really good plan and execute it," Brohm said. We have to be conscious of his athleticism with the ball the in his hands. They do a great job with him. He can run it, pull it down on a zone read and scramble. Even though we had one of our better games last year against Boston College because we were hitting on all cylinders on offense, but he still made a lot of plays."
Louisville still has opportunities to add wins to their record this season with five match-ups left, starting Friday night They will be on the road for the next three weeks playing Boston College, No.9 ranked Clemson, and Stanford.
"This week's match-up against Boston College gives the Cards an opportunity to get back to their winning ways.
Redman mentioned, "We are capable of winning the games so people have their heads up and we are really excited to get this next game at BC and we are still really high on the season."
