LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville football team looks to its wide receivers to continue to make big plays down field as the Cardinals travel to Charlottesville in a pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference matchup with Virginia on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Alabama transfer Ja'Corey Brooks leads the UofL passing attack with 25 receptions for 489 yards, while hauling in six touchdowns through five games this season. He has made a huge impact to the Louisville passing game, which is averaging 303.yard per game.
Wide receivers coach Garrick McGee raved about Brooks athleticism and his ability to stretch the field.,
"He has really long arms and a natural gift to track the ball down. Everybody can see that he can run and catch but I don't think people understand the level of energy and enthusiasm he brings to our team."
Louisville will also look to get Caullin Lacy more involved in the pass game as he'll appear in his third game back from injury on Saturday. In the first two games, Lacy has caught seven passes for 73 yards, five coming in the 31-24 loss to Notre Dame.
McGee spoke about how to adjust the gameplan in order to give Lacy more chances on the outside.
"We've had multiple conversations over the last 24 hours about how to get him more involved in the game," McGee said. "We understand what he brings to the table. We've lost a couple of games by one score, and he feels he could go out there and score a touchdown to get us back in the game. We believe that too. Look for him to make a major impact for the rest of the season."
Lacy is coming off a broken collarbone that he suffered in fall camp that sidelined him for the first three games of the season. A former first-team All-Sun Belt performer in 2023 at South Alabama, Lacy attacked his rehab aggressively, according to McGee, highlighting Lacy's willingness to return to the field sooner rather than later.
"He was telling us after a couple weeks that he thought he could play. That was ridiculous to be thinking like that but after talking with his parents, they kept saying that he was ready to play. We got him off the injury list, he's healthy and hopefully he can stay blessed in that regard and I expect him to have a tremendous impact on our offense moving forward."
Look for the Cardinals receivers to continue to make big plays Saturday afternoon versus Virginia as Louisville looks to get back in the win column. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET from Scott Stadium and can be seen on the ACC Network.
