Allen, DeWitt and Ulrich Tabbed for ACC Weekly Honors
January 30, 2024 | Track & Field
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three University of Louisville track & field athletes were honored by the ACC for their performances last weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
The Cardinals swept the ACC Field Performers of the Week awards with Trey Allen and Jayden Ulrich both being recognized by the conference for the second time this season. Cade DeWitt also earned his second conference weekly award of the year, being named the ACC Male Freshman of the Week.
Thus far this season, Louisville is one of two schools to win at least three ACC weekly honors in the same week, and the only one to do so twice this year after Allen, Sophia Day and DeWitt were recognized on Dec. 5.
Allen won the elite section of the men's high jump at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, clearing a final height of 2.22m (7-3.25). The redshirt senior, whose mark of 2.24m (7-4.25) at the KTCCCA College Opener in December currently sits second nationally and first in the ACC, is one of two athletes in the country to clear a 2.22m bar this season and the only one to do so twice.
DeWitt set a new school and freshman record of 5.32m (17-5.5) while placing fourth in the elite section of the men's pole vault. The mark stands third among freshmen nationally and second overall in the ACC.
Ulrich won the women's shot put with a season-best heave of 17.52m (57-5.75) that set a new meet record as well as a new facility record at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. The mark ties the junior for the sixth-best mark in the nation and leads the conference by more than a meter, while also standing as the third-best shot put performance in program history.
The Cardinals are set for their first split weekend of the season with the squad splitting between three meets. The PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic in Louisville will be contested on Fri, Feb. 2, while Louisville will also send athletes on the road to Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational and the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, which will both take place from Feb. 2-3.
