It will be the first of five tournaments the Cards will compete in this fall
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Head coach Whitney Young and the University of Louisville women's golf team are set to begin the 2023-24 fall season next week at the Boilermaker Classic. The Cardinals are traveling to West Lafayette to compete at the Kampen-Cosler Course on Purdue's campus.
The two-day tournament is set to begin on Monday, September 4th and will conclude the next day. The first day of action will have 36-holes played after a shotgun start begins round one at 9 a.m. ET. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday before the Cardinals return to campus.
The Cardinals return six players from last season, headlined by junior Carmen Griffiths. Griffiths played in all 11 tournaments last season and qualified as an individual for the NCAA Tournament. Also returning from last year's squad is Gabbi Bentancourt, Carly Haines, Molly Lyne, Hana Ryskova and Rylee Suttor.
The Cardinals made a couple of additions to the squad over the summer and it starts with new assistant coach Addie Baggarly. Baggarly comes to the Cardinals from SMU, where she was an assistant coach last season. Baggerly played golf collegiately at Florida for four seasons and Baylor for one.
The Cardinals also added transfer Beatriz Barrios and freshman Millie Cottrell to the squad for the 2023-24 season. Barrios was a transfer from Chattanooga and has played there for the past three seasons. Cottrell joins the Cardinals from across the pond as she is originally from Wales.
Following the conclusion of the Boilermaker Classic, the Cardinals will be back in action a few weeks later for the Mason Rudolph Invitational down in Franklin, Tennessee.
