July 19, 2023 | Track & Field
Rhoads comes to Louisville after two seasons at the University of New Mexico.
University of Louisville director of track and field/cross country Joe Franklin has announced that Wyatt Rhoads will be added to the track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach specializing in multi events.

"It's great to have one of the best young coaches in the country join us at Louisville," said Franklin. "Wyatt brings knowledge and enthusiasm that will help our students progress to their highest levels."

Rhoads will also serve as the director of operations for the Cardinals track and field and cross country teams while continuing to assist in recruiting efforts for the teams as a whole.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to join Coach Franklin in Louisville and look forward to the opportunity to continue building on the program's past success in the multi-events at the conference and national level!" said Rhoads.

For the last two seasons, Rhoads has coached pole vault and multi events at the University of New Mexico, while also assisting in the team's recruiting efforts. During his time with the Lobos, Rhoads led Camillo Dunniger to the 2022 Mountain West indoor title in the heptathlon and also helped him qualify for the 2022 NCAA West Region Preliminaries in the javelin throw during the outdoor season.

Prior to joining the staff at UNM, Rhoads spent the fall of 2021 as a volunteer assistant at Texas Tech University where he assisted in coaching multi events, pole vault, and jumps while also aiding in recruiting in all events for the Red Raiders.

Rhoads spent six years competing in track and field collegiately in the heptathlon and decathlon, spending his first three years of college at Iowa State University, where he was also a member of the football team, and his final three years at the University of Colorado. He scored points at the conference championship meet five times, including a fifth-place finish in the decathlon at the 2021 Pac-12 Outdoor Championships.

After earning a bachelor's degree in public relations with a minor in psychology from Iowa State in 2018, Rhoads completed a master of science in organizational leadership at Colorado while exhausting his remaining eligibility on the track.
