April 05, 2023 | Cross Country, Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville and Track and Field/Cross Country Head Coach Dale Cowper will part ways at the conclusion of the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field season, Director of Athletics Josh Heird announced Wednesday.
"We want to thank Dale for his many years of dedication and service to our athletic department, and we wish him the best as he pursues new opportunities," Heird said. "We're excited about the future of our Track and Field and Cross Country programs and will identify a tremendous leader to guide them forward."
Cowper, who is in his 10th season at the helm, has helped the Cardinals tally 68 NCAA All-Americans and 61 conference champions as Louisville's head coach and 27 more as an assistant coach spanning three conferences – the Atlantic Coast Conference (2015 – present), the American Athletic Conference (2014) and the BIG EAST (2013).
"I look forward to the remainder of the outdoor season along with the privilege to coach an outstanding group of students," said Cowper. "I believe this team will continue to walk together, talk together, and support one another throughout the spring. My family and I have enjoyed each of the 17 years we have spent in Louisville and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to guide this program over the last decade. Thank you to the student-athletes, coaches, support staff, alumni, administrators, officials, and donors that have made a tremendous impact on our program as well as my individual growth since joining the program in 2006."
The process will begin immediately to identify the next leader for the UofL Track and Field and Cross Country programs, whose athletes have a rich tradition of conference, national and international success.
