Men’s Track & Field Ranked No. 15 in USTFCCCA National Team Rankings
April 03, 2023 | Track & Field
This is the first time the men's outdoor squad has been ranked since 2017.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's track and field team soared to 15th nationally in the second installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Outdoor Track and Field National Rating Index, coming in with a point total of 119.58.
After being unranked to start the outdoor season, the men's team earned a spot in the national outdoor rankings for the first time since the 2017 season following a weekend highlighted by four record-breaking performances at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Stanford Invitational.
Jeremiah Willis led the way at the Texas Relays, winning the men's long jump with a wind-assisted jump of 8.06m (26-5.5) on his sixth and final attempt. However, his fifth attempt yielded a wind-legal mark of 8.02m (26-3.75) that eclipsed the previous school record, stands second nationally in the event, and leads the ACC.
Both the men's 4x100m and 4x400m relay records fell twice in Austin over the weekend with both teams resetting the previous records in the preliminary round on Friday before clocking faster times in Saturday's finals.
The 4x100m relay team of Nolan Macklin, Sterling Warner-Savage, Cameron Miller, and Isiah Pantiere earned sixth place in a school-record time of 39.15 that stands eighth in the nation and third in the conference. In the 4x400m relay, the foursome of Noah Carmichael, Isiah Pantiere, Cameron Miller, and Robert Joseph closed out the meet with a seventh-place finish in a program-best time of 3:06.44 that is also currently third in the ACC.
At the Stanford Invitational, Ian Kibiwot earned the final school record of the weekend in the men's 10000m, notching a time of 28:27.67 that is currently tops in the ACC and 15th in the nation.
The Cardinals face a quick turnaround as they prepare to travel to Oxford, Miss. to compete at Ole Miss's Joe Walker Invitational on Apr. 7-8.
