Cards Preparing for NFL Draft
April 27, 2023 | Football
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville will look to send a new group of Cardinals to the professional football ranks as the NFL Draft takes place at Union Station in Kansas City beginning on Thursday evening.
The three-day event opens with the first round on Thursday followed by rounds two and three on Friday. The final four rounds of the draft take place on Saturday. ESPN, ABC and NFL Network will televise the event with the opening round taking place at 8 p.m. ET. Day 2 of the draft begins at 7 p.m. ET followed by an 11 a.m. start on Saturday. The draft will also be streamed on WatchESPN and NFL.com.
This year's group of Louisville's NFL Draft prospects will join the 10 former Cardinals currently on NFL rosters.
Louisville didn't have a player selected last season and are looking for its first selection since wide receiver Tutu Atwell was the 57th pick in the draft by the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
This year's Louisville's draft class is highlighted by defensive end Yaya Diaby, a three-year starter and a third team All-ACC selection for the Cardinals in 2022. Diaby was second on the team with 14.0 tack-les for loss and 9.0 sacks to help the Cards lead the nation in sacks last year.
Diaby will potentially be followed off the board by a host of Cardinals including linebacker Yasir Abdullah, cornerback Kei'Trel Clark, tight end Marshon Ford, quarterback Malik Cunningham, Running back Tiyon Evans, linebacker Momo Sanogo and offensive linemen Trevor Reid and Caleb Chandler.
Louisville other draft-eligible players include offensive lineman Adonis Boone, wide receivers Jaelin Carter and Tyler Hudson, linebacker Marvin Dallas, defensive backs Kenderick Duncan and Chandler Jones, and tight end Isaac Martin.
The Cardinals have seen 153 players drafted over the course of their history and have had 29 players selected since 2010. Louisville has seen 16 players selected in the first round and 77 in rounds 2-7.
