Taylor Roby earns her first weekly honor of the season
GREENSBORO, Ky. – The University of Louisville's Taylor Roby has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week as announce by the league office today. She shares the honor with North Carolina's Kiersten Licea. This marks the first weekly award of the season for Roby and the third in her career.
Â
Last week, Roby helped lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 record including a win over Western Kentucky and an ACC series sweep at Virginia. The graduate senior from Mt. Washington, Ky., batted .583 (7-for-12) with two home runs, a double, four RBIs and four runs. She was walked four times and registered a .688 on-base percentage while carrying a 1.167 slugging percentage.
Â
In the series opener at Virginia, she belted out a home run to become Louisville's single season home run leader and on Saturday, her two-run shot in the seventh broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Cardinals to a 6-4 win to clinch the series. She moved into a tie for the NCAA lead in home runs with 19 this season. In the series finale, she went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Â
In addition to her success at the plate, she also made three starts in the circle, picking up the win at Western Kentucky.
Â
The Cardinals, who enter the week ranked No. 25 in the D1Softball Poll, will wrap up the home season this weekend when Boston College visits Ulmer Stadium for a three-game ACC series. UofL is slated to celebrate senior day prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. game.
