
Cards Fall to MTSU in Regular Season Finale

No. 32 UofL wraps up regular season play with a 4-1 loss to No. 28 MTSU
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 32 University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 28 Middle Tennessee State at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in the final match of the regular season.

The Cardinals moved to 15-10 on the season, while Middle Tennessee State advances to 19-7 overall.

Louisville dropped the doubles point after coming down to the wire on court one. The duo of Sergio Hernandez and Natan Rodrigues downed the No. 3 pair from MTSU in dominant fashion, winning 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks dropped their doubles match 6-4. Etienne Donnet and Fabien Salle fought to the final point on court one before falling 7-6 (11-9).

No. 50-ranked Salle gave the Cards their lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Hernandez fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and Andre Steinbach dropped his match at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-0. The Blue Raiders clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over No. 28-ranked Donnet.

"Tough day for Louisville," said head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We were trying to finish the season with a win for the seniors. They did so much for the program. Today, Middle Tennessee played better than us. The guys fought hard, I'm always proud of how they fight. Now, we have to focus on ACC, and hopefully stay ready for the NCAAs and do something for the seniors that we didn't do at home."

Louisville has earned the No. 7 seed in the ACC Championship and will take on 10th-seeded Notre Dame Thursday at 6 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
