GREENSBORO, N.C. — Five Louisville men's basketball student-athletes have been named to the 2022-23 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team, the league announced Thursday.
The Cardinals' Zan Payne, Hercy Miller, Mike James, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Fabio Basili are among 44 ACC men's basketball student-athletes recognized for their academic achievement and on-court performance.
Louisville has placed 48 selections on the academic team in the Cardinals' nine years in the ACC. Its five selections this season are the program's most since the 2019-20 campaign. Only Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech had more selections this season than UofL.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career, while also appearing in at least 50% of the team's contests.
Payne is pursuing a post baccalaureate as a graduate student, while Miller is seeking a bachelor's degree in business. James and Huntley-Hatfield are both majoring in sport administration.
The men's basketball team has attained a collective 3.0 GPA or better for 25 of the last 29 semesters, including a 3.022 cumulative team mark for the Fall 2022 semester.
Louisville has received an NCAA Public Recognition Award seven of the last eight years awarded for ranking among the top 10 percent in men's basketball in the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. Louisville and Stanford are the only two schools from Power Five conferences that have earned the APR recognition in at least seven of the last eight years in which it was awarded.
