
Cardinals Close Regular Season With #10 Notre Dame

This will be the second matchup between the two teams over the past two weeks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's basketball team is set to close the regular season at home on Sunday and will see a familiar foe. The Cardinals are set to take on #10 Notre Dame for the second time in 10 days Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center. It will be senior day for the Cardinals and they will honor the six players prior to the game (Morgan Jones, Chrislyn Carr, Josie Williams, Liz Dixon, Norika Konno and Mykasa Robinson). Sunday's game will begin at 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
The Cardinals have won six of their last seven games heading into Sunday's matchup and it started with a lineup change ahead of the Jan. 29 game against Syracuse. Robinson, Konno and Nyla Harris were added to the starting lineup with Hailey Van Lith and Olivia Cochran and a number of players have had success since the change in starting five.
Van Lith has led all scorers with 17.1 points per game over the last seven games. She has scored 17 or more points in each of her last six games and had multiple steals in four of her last five. Robinson has been all over the court since she was added to the starting five. She has averaged 7.7 points, 7.3 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals over the last seven games. She has led the Cardinals in assists in each of the last seven games and had a career high 12 assists and zero turnovers against Syracuse.
Carr is second on the team with 11.6 points per game coming off the bench and she has led the Cards in plus/minus in four of the last seven games. Harris set career highs with 18 points in the win over Syracuse and 12 rebounds in the win over North Carolina. Konno set a career high with 12 points and four threes in the first half of the win over Clemson. Dixon has had double-doubles in each of the past two games with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Boston College and 13 points and 10 rebounds against Miami. It was the first time since her freshman year that she had double-doubles in back-to-back games.

ABOUT THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame is 23-4 on the season and are 14-3 in ACC play. They are ranked 10th in the AP poll and 10th in the coaches poll heading into Sunday's matchup with the Cardinals. Notre Dame is riding a five-game winning streak heading into Sunday and have not lost since Feb. 5 against Duke (52-57). This is the second of two matchups between the two teams as they faced off in South Bend last week on Feb. 16. Sunday's matchup will pit two of the best shooting teams in the conference. Notre Dame leads the league with a .464 shooting percentage on the season and the Cardinals are second with a .456 shooting percentage. In conference games, Louisville leads the league with a .452 mark and Notre Dame is third with a .439 mark. Both teams have been able to facilitate the ball at a high rate as Notre Dame leads the league with 16.1 assists per game in ACC games this year. Louisville is right behind them with the league's second-best mark of 15.5 assists per game. Both teams are also two of the best scoring teams in conference play this season. Louisville ranks third in the league with 70.24 points per game and Notre Dame is fourth with 70.18 points per game in ACC games.
Series History - This will be the 30th meeting between the two schools as they have been conference foes going back to the BIG EAST days. The Cardinals trail the all-time series 12-17 but they have had most of the recent success between the two schools. Louisville has won six of the last seven matchups dating back to the 2018-19 season. The Cardinals are 5-5 all-time in games played in Louisville and have won the previous four matchups that have been held in the Derby City.
Last Meeting (Feb. 16, 2023) - The University of Louisville women's basketball team battled all night long but ended up on the losing end of a 78-76 result in overtime to #10/10 Notre Dame Thursday night at Purcell Pavilion. Olivia Cochran converted a layup to tie the score at 76 all with 3.8 seconds left but Olivia Miles hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Irish the win. Hailey Van Lith led the Cardinals with 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting and was 3-for-4 from behind the arc and tied a career high with five steals. Chrislyn Carr added 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting and she was also 3-for-4 from three. Mykasa Robinson had a team-high five assists, her fourth-straight game leading the Cardinals in assists. Van Lith had a team-high six rebounds as the Cardinals out-rebounded Notre Dame 36-33 on the night. Coming into the game, Notre Dame had out-rebounded opponents by over 11 a night. The Cards were shot out of a cannon to start the fourth as they went on a 9-2 run. Carr scored seven of the nine points, including a three that forced Notre Dame to call a timeout with the Cards up 62-53 with 7:46 left. The Irish responded as they hit four of their next five shots to pull within one with just over three minutes left. The Cardinals held the lead until less than a minute left when a Westbeld layup put Notre Dame up two. Louisville responded with a jumper from Van Lith to tie the score at 70 with 20.7 seconds left. The Cardinals played excellent defense and did not allow the Irish to get a quality shot and forced overtime. In overtime, the Irish held a four-point lead with 14 seconds left but the Cards didn't quit. Van Lith made a driving layup and forced a steal to give the Cards possession. On the out of bounds play, Olivia Cochran muscled up for a layup to tie the game at 76 with 3.8 left. The Cards defended Miles well as she faded away towards the three-point line but her shot was good as time expired to give the Irish the win.
